Let’s face it – as humans we’re often functioning on autopilot. More often than not, we’re missing out on what is happening in the present moment because our thoughts are in the past or the future, or our mind is busily trying to attach a story to whatever is happening.
The quality of ‘awareness’ allows us to drop into the present moment and observe what is actually there.
Awareness means asking ourselves: what do we see? What do we hear? What do we feel? We drop into the present moment in a soft and curious way, without judgment for ourselves or anyone else. From this state, we’re able to start more fully experiencing our lives, making each moment richer.
So … how do we do it? First, notice the physical sensation in the moment. Do you have high energy? Low energy? Look to your physical body for clues. Is your breath coming fast, slow, or in-between?
We like to say, start with just one breath. Breathe in fully, and breathe out fully. Strive to stay present for the entire inhalation and exhalation. You can always return back to this moment through your breath. This is awareness.
