Self care is crucial, especially in an always-on, phone-in-hand world. It’s about doing what is necessary and supportive to you: in mind, spirit, and body.
Examples of self-care could include:
- Setting boundaries
- Brushing and flossing
- Going to bed by 10 pm
- Exercising
- Meditating
- Dog walks
- Calling a sibling, parent, or child
- Grabbing a drink with friends
That last one is a hint. Don’t confuse self-care with self-indulgence. Yes, meeting those friends for a drink is definitely self-care. But care can creep into indulgence if you’re meeting those same friends for four or five drinks, three nights in a row.
Look. Who doesn’t love some chocolate or a night of binge watching a great show? There’s nothing wrong with indulging in some things that make you feel good … occasionally.
Keep an eye on if you have a tendency to justify “indulgence” under the umbrella of self-care. Watch how your mind describes your vice to you.
