At some point you’ve likely asked yourself, ‘What’s my purpose?’

Maybe the answer feels obvious because you have something you’re passionate about, like Tiger Woods or Mozart, who each activated a natural talent at a young age. Or perhaps you have no clue––and you’re still searching.

Regardless of which side of the spectrum you’re on, we’d encourage you to look at the idea of “purpose” in a new light.

What if we all––each of us––have the same purpose? What if it’s just the unfolding of that purpose that’s different?

What if our purpose in life is to be truly happy

If you’re thinking, “Well, that’s selfish!” or “That’s just not in the cards for me”––stay with me. The energy that we share with those around us when we’re authentically happy is positively contagious. In essence, your happiness is a gift to the world. Imagine the ripple effect and how many lives could be touched simply by dwelling in and sharing your true happiness with others.

And what do we mean by happiness? We like to think of it as experiencing positivity while having deep feelings of joy and well-being.

The positivity that comes from your happiness is an undeniable force. So if this is our purpose … where do we start? It begins in the mind:

  1. Set a daily Intention to be truly happy. If you don’t know what that looks like for you, use your intention to find your North Star. Get specific; make a list of things that bring you joy and commit to exploring them.
  2. Use Awareness to check in with how you’re feeling. Do you feel positive or negative? Notice what ignites your soul and what doesn’t. Pay attention to your daily habits and how they make you feel. Be honest with yourself about your daily choices and whether or not they bring you closer to your intention of happiness.
  3. Find ‘The Gap’ and make a choice. Moment to moment, keep making those choices that align with your intention to be truly happy.

Remember to be patient with yourself. Creating new positive mental habits takes time. True happiness requires working with your mind and also requires your authentic self. Discovering and following your purpose of true happiness will allow you to show up as the best of you.
